Achieving Life-Long Potential – Preface

Achieving Life-Long Potential

Kids Under Construction

A Toolbox for Parents, Coaches and Educators

By Ronn W. Langford

The Purpose of this book and the instructional video presentations is:

1.) to give parents a better understanding of their children and ways to enhance the long term quality of their lives.

2.) to give educators a better understanding of current individual learning challenges and strategies to help them help their kids achieve.

3.) to give coaches a complete state of the art tool box of strategies to deal with both physiological and psychological challenges in learning, sports, music, and life skills in general, and to create a long term impact upon the lives of their kids.

Potential: A possibility that has not yet come into being; an unrealized capability; an undeveloped power.

FrameWork: A concept to systematically organize and outline the integration of information, structure, and strategies.

Preparation: The process of making someone or something ready for some purpose or specific activity for the future.

Invitation/Introduction:

I’d like to invite you to become a student again. A different kind of student than you have been before. A student of how kids learn and function. To help us, as parents, coaches and educators, create higher quality lives for our children. To help us prepare them for the future. To help them develop their abilities; their talents; their behaviors; their character; their values; their belief systems; their personal performance. To enable them to reach further toward their potential.

I’d like to invite you to open your mind to look at how each of us, as human beings, become who we are. How each of us can become, at least to some degree, who we desire to become.

And perhaps, most importantly, how each of us, as parents, coaches, and educators, can learn the strategies and develop a blueprint to be more effective in working with our kids.

In a moment, you will have an opportunity to view the Introduction Experience, a short video and meta-presentation, for an overview of what you will learn. When you travel into the “portal of function” with me, we will look at the three primary elements of functional and mental performance. Our Physiology. Our Psychology. Our Identity. And how these elements are integrated into who our kids are and who they can become.

These elements help us to understand how we, as human beings, learn. Not just how to learn facts and figures, but how we can learn to do things better and how we become who we are. And why some kids have a difficulty with learning. They help us learn how we can increase our performance, and the performance of our kids. How character and our values are developed. How kids gather their information, their knowledge, their perceptions, and the potential impact that their life experiences will have upon them the rest of their lives. These elements help us understand motivation – what it is, what it isn’t, and why it is so important for kids. No one does anything without being motivated.

It is not my intention to look at this subject matter as a religious or spiritual philosophy or political preference. I see myself as a deeply spiritual person, but my intention is not to give you my opinion in regard to what you or your child should think or believe. My intention is to give you a better understanding of the process and systems of the body that are involved in programming and function. That is why I refer to this as Kids under Construction.

We are going to focus upon how each child programs their beliefs – about themselves and about their world. Often that program in a child, and their perception of their world, is not what we really intended. In fact, our program and the quality of our own lives, is often not everything we really want. The question is, how can we help our kids to enhance the quality of their own lives, and in the process, make some changes in ourselves?

For an Introduction Experience and to look at a short experiential overview of the concepts of function, performance and learning, please view the following video.

Now, let’s look at the three basic elements of programming: Physiology – Psychology – and Identity. Please view the following video.

At first, it may seem complicated to define and use the strategies to work with these three elements, but with the tools I will give you, you can become a better parent – a better coach – and a better educator in helping your kids to develop and improve each of these three elements.

One of our unique and very important concepts that we call T. I. C. E., an acronym of Teach – Instruct – Coach – Engineer, is a great way to look at the PROCESS. As a parent, coach, or educator, what I want to be doing with a specific child based upon what they individually need to do to improve. So – – – please view the following video.
